Final OTS - WINNER DIES - (Reuploaded)

Reflective comments:
Due to background noise during one of our shots in our previous upload, we had to edit it to the best of our ability to try and cut out the background noise as well as possible without affecting any of the other sound.

Technical: Evaluation

Critical theory: Research into gender stereotypes

In the media, especially films, women are perceived as being
- Weak
- Vulnerable
- Dependent on others
- Housewives / looking after children

Men are stereotypically;
- Strong
- Masculine
- Provides for family
- Fearless

Film Noirs break these conventions as the women (femme fatales) are seen as being dangerous, powerful, assertive and manipulative whereas the men (anti-heros) are seen as easily manipulated and led by women. The roles of men and women also seem reversed within film noirs. The anti-hero within film noirs are normally seen as the victim, we haven't included a male character into our OTS due to us deciding on having two dominant female characters who are seen as very strong and individual women.

Technical: Evidence: Editing

Reflective comments:
As we had been studying media for nearly 3 years, we knew how to edit clips and also music. This made the whole editing process much quicker and easier for us.

Technical: Evidence: Creating the right lighting effect

Reflective Comments:
After experimenting with lighting a few times, we attempted to create the right lighting effect which would be suitable for our film noir. This ended up being quite successful.

Planning: Evidence: Props

Reflective Comments:
For the start of our OTS, we needed to use a rocking chair, fortunately, there was a rocking chair suitable to our film noir in the school. We filmed the shot of the rocking chair during school which made it a lot more easier.
We also used a doll, which a member of our group had at home.
These props were easy to get hold of and also film.

Planning: Evidence: Writing a script

Reflective comments:
This script includes the dialogue we are planning to include within our OTS and also extra stage directions that we thought of which we hadn't included within our storyboard

Focus group audience research: Feedback

We asked for feedback from 2 students from our media class and also one of our teachers.
They all commented on the fact that there was a few minor shakes throughout near the end of our film noir, I agree with this and think it would of been a good idea to use a tripod for the last part of our filming.
There was rubbish under the table of the poker game spotted, we should of took this into consideration before we begun filming this scene and made sure the camera was focusing only on the poker game rather than any unnecessary aspects.
We got positive feedback on our shot types, as we used various shots which fit well within the conventions
The material we used was agreed to be conventional such as the poker game.
They also commented that the lighting during the poker game was good, however I believe we could of improved the lighting more during this scene and throughout the end of the OTS.

However, it was also pointed out that the doll at the beginning of the OTS was rather random and hard to understand why it was included. However, our continuity throughout the film noir was good.
The shots were strong during the flashbacks to the victim hanging from the tree, I agree with this and believe that this was one of the best bits throughout our OTS
The sound effects were done quite well, especially the creaking sound behind the rocking chair.
However, the background music could of been a bit more professional.
We also need to change our credits to 'Directed by' and 'Produced by'

Reflective comments:
I agree with most of the feedback we got given, the feedback has enabled us to come to terms with our faults and also think of ways that we could of improved them.

Planning: Evidence: Working on our storyboard

Planning: New storyboard

Reflective Comments:
This is the storyboard we have put together so far for our new idea. We haven't yet gone into much detail as we thought we would get the basic detail down to see if it fits the film noir conventions before including more shots and transitions.

Planning: Production meeting - 3/4/12

Today we had a production meeting, we used this time to complete our first draft. We listened through various samples of music and came to an agreement of which piece of music to include (Audrey's Dance from the Twin Peaks soundtrack).
We decided that with this piece of music it resulted in our film noir looking as if it fits to the conventions much more than it originally did.
